Building your future in the heart of Europe
surface: 1,000 m²;
Built in the 12th century, Septfontaines Castle is a medieval Luxembourg castle that rises above the church on a rocky ridge, overlooking the village of Septfontaines in the commune of Habscht and part of the Valley of the Seven Castles.
Historians don't know the exact date of construction of the first Septfontaines castle, but a document from 1192 mentions a certain Tidier as the castle's owner. In 1233, Countess Ermesinde of Luxembourg granted the castle and village to Jean de Septfontaines as a fief. In the 13th century, the castle was expanded. In 1600, Christophe de Criechingen built a square tower in the Renaissance style. In 1779, a fire destroyed the castle, and it began to deteriorate. In 1919, the castle was partially dismantled, but in 1920, the owners attempted to halt the deterioration and converted it into a seigneurial estate.
Today, the castle comprises the main building, partially renovated but in need of complete restoration. It is intended to become a prestigious residence, taking advantage of its location above the picturesque Septfontaines area. Recent renovations include the reconstruction of the exterior walls, the installation of an elevator (to be replaced), concrete slabs, brickwork, wooden windows (to be replaced), and various heating and electrical systems. The roof has been renewed and covered with copper, and the insulation requires additional work.
The building features bridges leading to two terraces with exceptional panoramic views, one located on the round tower, while the other is opposite the main castle. The basement includes a spacious parking garage, easily accommodating over fifteen cars, accessible via a reinforced concrete ramp. Also visible here are the initial construction work on the wooden structures intended to form a pyramid and a glass dome to illuminate the basement. These structures add a contemporary touch to the castle and draw attention from the courtyard.
The site is classified as a national monument and is maintained by an architect from the National Monuments Service. Government grants support maintenance work, and a variety of architectural and engineering studies are available for consultation.
